Anna-Stina Treumund

Anna-Stina Treumund is a photography and video artist from Tallinn, she became well-known for being one of the first artists in Estonia to openly deal with lesbian themes. She has studied in Tartu, Tallinn, Vilnius and Linköping and currently she is in the Academy of Arts Ph.D program, dealing with queer theory in hetero-normative society. Her latest personal exhibition will open at Hobusepea Gallery in October. At the exhibition, Treumund reflects SM culture and practices through the filter of queer theory, selecting quite a few canonical works from art history (such as Gustave Courbet’s L’Origine du monde, 1866) as a source of inspiration for this purpose.
